CTTR Staff Runners Up for Excellence in Research Award

On Wednesday evening (17 June 2015), staff of the CTTR’s English Language and Literature Unit of Assessment in the recent 2014 Research Excellent Framework (REF) gathered at the Black Box Theatre at the Performance Hub, Walsall Campus, as nominees for the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Staff Excellence Awards 2015 under the category of Excellence in Research. Entertainment by the City Choir, an impressive three-course meal (only the appetizers of which were caught on film by our team – see end of post), and a truly collegial evening amply compensated for losing out to the Cybermetrics group, whose Unit is ranked 5th in the UK by the Times Higher!

excell2A first-time Unit of Assessment, English Language and Literature was recognized for its contribution to the University’s best ever research outcome in the National peer-review research exercise, with an overall rating of 32% World-Leading and Internationally Excellent research, and an especially strong performance in publications (83%  ranked internationally).

The Unit was coordinated by CTTR’s co-director, Dr Benjamin Colbert, and includes CTTR researchers Dr Nicola Allen, Dr David Ellis, Dr Mark Jones, Professor Niall Griffiths, Dr Paul McDonald, Dr Rosie Miles,  and Candi Miller, joined by Dr Stella Hockenhull and Dr Frances Pheasant-Kelly of the Centre for Film, Media, Discourse and Culture.
