Dr Nicola Allen, Lecturer in English, and Dr Aidan Byrne, Senior Lecturer in English and Media, introduce their research into the history and aesthetics of politician’s novels in an article, ‘Anti-democratic? I couldn’t possibly comment’, published in Times Higher Education, 8 January 2015, pp. 44-45, available online as, ‘They’ve written the book on political wish fulfilment’.
Yesterday, Dr Aidan Byrne also participated in a BBC Radio Wales documentary about the Welsh short story writer, novelist, and playwright Caradoc Evans on the centenary of his controversial short story collection, My People (1915). The show was broadcast on BBC Radio Wales on Wednesday, 7 January 2015, and will be available on the BBC player for four weeks (follow previous link).
Finally, Dr Meena Dhanda, Reader in Philosophy and Cultural Politics, joined several academics who have recently discussed the dearth of women philosophers in university departments, both in the UK and internationally. See Rebecca Ratcliffe and Claire Shaw’s article, ‘Philosophy is for posh, white boys with trust funds’ – why are there so few women?’, The Guardian, Monday, 5 January 2015.
